His progression to Shotokan Karate in Belagavi at twelve and ultimately to Taekwondo under the mentorship of Master Subhash Yadav by sixteen marked the evolution of a dedicated martial artist destined for greatness. The adoption of Taekwondo, an Olympic sport, proved to be a defining moment—one that would place Karnataka on the world map of martial arts.

In 2020, Master Rao made history by becoming Karnataka’s first World Taekwondo Level I International Coach, certified in Lausanne, Switzerland. A lifelong learner, Master Rao is pursuing his Doctorate in Sports Administration and Management from East Bridge University, Paris. His academic portfolio includes a Master’s in Physical Education, a Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Coaching, and a BA in Public Administration. From earning his National Referee Class II status to officiating at top-tier events like the CBSE South Zone Championships and DASARA GAMES CM Cup, his technical expertise has been pivotal in elevating competition standards. As Head of Operations (Technical) for state championships in 2024 and 2025, and Tournament Director for CBSE South Zone II Championship, his leadership has been exemplary.

Serving as CEO of the Belagavi District Taekwondo Association (2018–2022), Master Rao ushered in a golden era of infrastructure modernisation and athlete development. He implemented digital scoring systems, standardised international training protocols, and developed rural outreach programmes that dramatically increased participation. His reforms in governance, transparency, and technical excellence became a model for other districts.

In 2012, Master Rao founded Rao’s Yuva Academy at the Sri Siddheshwar Temple Campus in Kakati Village.
