WhatsApp Harassment of Juniors Now Officially Ragging: UGC

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has taken a firm stance against the harassment of junior students within educational settings. In a significant move to protect students’ well-being, the UGC has officially declared that harassing juniors through WhatsApp groups will be treated as ragging.

Universities Directed to Monitor WhatsApp Groups

This new directive mandates higher education institutions to actively monitor informal WhatsApp groups, recognizing them as potential platforms for ragging. The UGC emphasizes that any instances of harassment discovered within these groups will be met with strict action, enforced under the established anti-ragging rules.

Protecting Students from Online Harassment

This measure aims to curb the growing concern of cyberbullying and online harassment among students. By explicitly classifying WhatsApp harassment as ragging, the UGC aims to create a safer and more inclusive environment for all students pursuing higher education.
