Kanwar Yatra: Uttar Pradesh Veils Liquor Shops, Sparking Debate Over Alcohol Sales

In preparation for the annual Kanwar Yatra pilgrimage, authorities in Uttar Pradesh are covering liquor shops along the route with curtains. This measure is intended to show respect to the religious sentiments of the Kanwariyas, the devotees undertaking the pilgrimage. However, this action has ignited a debate about the effectiveness of simply covering the shops rather than implementing a complete ban on sales.

SP Leader Demands Complete Ban on Liquor Sales During Kanwar Yatra

Samajwadi Party (SP) leader ST Hassan has voiced his concerns about the practice of covering liquor shops, arguing that it is not a sufficient measure. He has called for a complete ban on alcohol sales along the Kanwar Yatra route during the pilgrimage. Hassan questioned the logic behind merely covering the shops, suggesting that using the same rationale, one could simply cover a meat shop and continue operations.

Ensuring Respect and Reverence During Kanwar Yatra

The Kanwar Yatra is a significant religious pilgrimage for millions of devotees. Authorities are striving to create a respectful and conducive environment for the pilgrims as they journey to collect holy water. While the covering of liquor shops is a step towards acknowledging the sanctity of the pilgrimage, the debate continues about whether a complete ban on alcohol sales would be a more appropriate measure.
