Odisha Student Sets Herself Ablaze Alleging Harassment

A heartbreaking incident has unfolded in Balasore, Odisha, where a college student resorted to self-immolation within the college premises. The student allegedly took this drastic step after facing repeated demands for sexual favors and threats from the department head.

Student Suffers Severe Burns, Fellow Student Also Injured

The young woman has suffered burns over 95% of her body. A fellow student who bravely attempted to extinguish the flames also sustained severe burns, estimated at 70%, and is currently receiving medical treatment.

Allegations of Harassment by Department Head

The incident has sparked outrage and concern, with allegations surfacing that the student had been subjected to ongoing harassment by the department head. She reportedly faced relentless pressure to comply with his demands, coupled with threats of jeopardizing her academic future if she refused.
