Odisha Student Sets Herself on Fire Alleging Harassment, Brother Seeks Justice

A heartbreaking incident has unfolded in Balasore, Odisha, where a college student attempted self-immolation following alleged persistent harassment and demands for sexual favors by her head of department. The student suffered burns across 95% of her body. Tragically, a fellow student who bravely attempted to intervene and save her also sustained severe burns, affecting 70% of their body.

Head of Department Arrested, Principal Suspended Amid Growing Outrage

Swift action followed the incident, with the head of department being arrested and subsequently suspended. The college principal has also been suspended pending further investigation. Odisha’s higher education minister has assured the public that strict action will be taken against those found responsible.

The victim’s brother, while expressing his grief and anger, has voiced concerns about the fairness and transparency of the ongoing investigation. He has vowed to relentlessly pursue justice for his sister and ensure those accountable are brought to book.
