Nepal Flood Tragedy: Glacial Lake Burst in Tibet Identified as Cause
A heartbreaking flood disaster has struck Nepal’s Bhote Koshi River region, leaving at least nine people dead and several others missing. The tragedy has now been linked to a sudden and powerful glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) originating in the Tibet region of China.

According to a regional climate monitoring body, the flood was triggered by the draining of a supraglacial lake – a body of water that forms on top of a glacier. These lakes are particularly susceptible to sudden drainage events, which can unleash massive amounts of water and debris downstream, causing catastrophic flooding.
