Bihar Voter List Controversy: Alleged Foreign Nationals Found Registered with Fake Documents

A surprising revelation has surfaced during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar. Election officials, conducting house-to-house surveys, have reportedly uncovered several instances of individuals from Nepal, Bangladesh, and Myanmar registered as voters with allegedly fraudulent documents. These discoveries are primarily concentrated in the Seemanchal region, a border area known for its diverse population.

Election Commission to Investigate Allegations of Voter Fraud

According to sources within the Election Commission, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have flagged these suspicious registrations. If the allegations are confirmed, the names will be removed from the final voter list, scheduled for publication on September 30, 2025. This raises concerns about the integrity of the electoral process and the potential for voter fraud.

Opposition Accuses Government of Voter Suppression

Meanwhile, the opposition has condemned the exercise, labeling it as a veiled attempt at voter suppression and a backdoor method of implementing a National Register of Citizens (NRC)-like process. They allege the government is targeting specific communities to disenfranchise them. This controversy adds another layer of complexity to the already politically charged atmosphere in Bihar.
