Kanwar Yatra 2024: Glass Shards Disrupt Route in Delhi’s Shahdara

As the holy month of Sawan commenced on Friday, thousands of devotees embarked on the annual Kanwar Yatra pilgrimage across Delhi, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh. While state police have implemented security measures for the pilgrims, or Kanwariyas, an unsettling incident has been reported in Delhi’s Shahdara district.

Minister Kapil Mishra Reports Safety Concern

Delhi Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra took to social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) to express his concern. According to Minister Mishra, miscreants scattered broken glass pieces across nearly a kilometer of the designated Kanwar Yatra route in Shahdara. He assured that authorities are working to ensure the safety and smooth passage of the pilgrims and to prevent further disruptions.

Authorities Investigate Incident

While investigations are underway, the incident has raised concerns about the safety of the pilgrims undertaking the arduous journey. The act of scattering glass shards poses a significant risk to the barefooted Kanwariyas.
