50 Fake Holy Men Arrested in Dehradun’s “Operation Kalnemi” Crackdown

Dehradun, Uttarakhand – In a significant operation targeting fraudulent religious figures, Uttarakhand police have arrested over 50 individuals posing as holy men (sadhus) in Dehradun. The operation, codenamed “Operation Kalnemi,” was launched under the direction of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to address the growing concern of con men exploiting religious faith for personal gain. One of the arrested individuals is a Bangladeshi national, Rukan Rakam alias Shah Alam, who was allegedly posing as a mute person in the Sahaspur area to deceive people.

Statewide Crackdown on Fake Sadhus

Police suspect that these individuals may be involved in various criminal activities under the guise of religious asceticism. “Operation Kalnemi” is not limited to Dehradun but encompasses a statewide effort to apprehend fake sadhus. The operation has already resulted in the arrest of 127 individuals across Dehradun, Haridwar, and Udham Singh Nagar districts, demonstrating the scale of the problem and the government’s commitment to addressing it.

Bangladeshi National’s Involvement Raises Concerns

The arrest of a Bangladeshi national raises questions about potential cross-border criminal networks and highlights the need for stricter vigilance in religious places. Authorities are currently investigating the extent of Shah Alam’s involvement and any potential connections to other criminal groups.
